Help Reopen My Wrongful Conviction Case. Based On New Evidence and Retracted Statements.
The Issue
Hi, my name is Kadalfi Amir Pratt, I am 29yrs old, unfortunately my life turned into what feels like a permanent nightmare over a decade ago when I was wrongfully convicted for a crime. So due to that I am currently being housed at Sussex 1 State Prison. Evidence that could and would have exonerated me was not presented by my lawyer, resulting in a misguided verdict. Today, I continue to suffer the consequences of this unjust turn of events not due to a completely faulty system; but due to an incompetent lawyer. This whole ordeal has left me separated from my family and my freedom.
Two co-defendants, who initially provided statements against me, have since retracted their allegations and expressed their willingness to testify on my behalf. Their retractions are two major new pieces of evidence, evidence that was not available during my initial trial. If used effectively, these statements along with other contradictions in testimonies during my trial and other important pieces of evidence that I’ve now gathered in which my lawyer didn’t deem necessary to use during my trial could potentially reverse my unjust conviction.
The justice system should strive for fairness, accuracy, and truth. Right now I am a statistic being one of the wrongfully convicted.
But for me, I am not just a statistic, this is a harsh reality, a stolen decade of time and this is my plea for justice. It is important for the integrity of our system that when new evidence like this emerges which can lead to a reassessment of situations like mine, that the case be allowed for reconsideration. I (WE) request the relevant legal authorities to reopen my case, taking into account the retracted statements and other overlooked evidence. I seek this not only for the restoration of my freedom but also to highlight the systemic issues (incompetency of public defenders) that need rectification in our legal system.
Please sign this petition in support of my fight for justice. Your support can provide much hope in a situation that has yielded little to none. Sign this petition to demand reopening my case.
