Help release Helena Cecena Verdugo from ICE custody

Help release Helena Cecena Verdugo from ICE custody
The Issue
My name is Abrena Wilkerson, and I’m creating this petition in support of my best friend, Helena Cecena Verdugo, who was recently detained by ICE while in Nevada.
I’ve known Helena for over 10 years, and I can honestly say she is one of the most hardworking, loyal, and loving people in my life. She’s not just my best friend—she’s like family to me.
Helena works hard every single day to support her family financially, while also contributing to her own household with her husband. On top of that, she’s currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University. She’s doing all of this at once—something most people wouldn’t even try to take on. In fact, I’d say she works harder than most Americans I know.
She’s the most loyal person I’ve ever met—always there for me when I need her, encouraging me, lifting me up, and just bringing so much joy and peace into my life. She constantly tells people how proud she is of me for earning my Master's degree in Communications, and her words and love have kept me going in tough times.
Helena is deeply loved—not just by me, but by her community, her family, and everyone lucky enough to know her. Removing her from this country would cause serious hardship to all of us who rely on her strength, support, and kindness. She contributes to our economy, our schools, and most of all, to the lives of the people around her.
What’s even more heartbreaking is that Helena’s situation is not unique. Over 59,000 people are currently in ICE detention, and more than 71% of them have no criminal conviction. These are mothers, students, workers, and friends—just like Helena—who deserve to live their lives in peace and safety.
Please sign this petition to help bring awareness to Helena’s case and support her fight to stay in the United States. She belongs here. Her absence is already being felt, and we cannot afford to lose someone like her.
Thank you for your support.
