Another case…this time someone purposely leading officers somewhere to then get a gun and shoot them. Career criminal obviously. Gets ten years. We’re the only first world country on the planet with sentences like Taira’s.
Also, it will only let me do one update per day but the Kentucky DOC is being particularly cruel recently. Five plus years ago the inmates had unlimited phone calls per day but were on wall phones and they went to tablets for communication about 4-5 years ago. They then were able to make calls with their tablets, making it easier to have difficult conversations in private and just have an all out easier time connecting with loved ones. Inmates connecting with loved ones is one of the biggest markers for lower recidivism rates. Anyway, DoC removed the calling app from tablets and the inmates families stood up and wrote the governor and DOC: calling for the app to be put back. Instead of put the app back they seemingly retaliated further , by limiting inmates to only four calls per day. This is causing major issues especially considering on their first day implementing their entire messaging system failed to work. People were calling and getting loved ones voicemails and being considered one of their calls(my wife had me call someone’s mother because she wasted all four calls on calls going to voicemail). It’s also convenient timing for this as it’s coming at a time when the prisons are losing their “site commissions”, otherwise known as kickbacks, for phone calls and the charge per minute is going significantly down because the FCC went to court and ruled they were gouging prices. In what would appear to be retaliation for this they continue to lose tools to help correct past behaviors and rehabilitate. It’s almost if it’s the Dept of Storage not the Dept of Corrections. Trying to stand up and bring awareness for the current situation!
