I am writing to you concerning the extreme problem of the violence on police officers. Have you ever wondered how many police officers get injured or killed while on duty?    Did you know that police officers are killed every day in the U.S. and they are injured several times each day?    How would you feel if I told you that kids are losing their parents over these crimes? For many, the issue of these violence crimes has become a problem because their family members are cops in dangerous cities. The issue of violence towards cops truly began to grow into a big problem in 2020, when George Floyd died. No matter if he was killed by the cops or by something else, it caused many people to despise cops, which led to many violent crimes towards them to start. Having researched this issue I have come to the conclusion that this happenes far too often. The fact that these violent acts are happening shows that people will take anything anyone does and they will take it out on someone else. Such as hearing a cop who killed someone on the news and then commiting a violent crime on some other cop. This happens way more than you would realize. I believe that we need to make sure that the cops are represented respectfully on news and make sure they are in safe areas, in order for them to stop the violence on the rest of the world.

One reason why we need to keep cops safe is because they keep our lives safe because they have the ability to keep us safe. This reason matters because we are loosing our protection. We are always worried about the violent crimes against us, but not on the police. But if we keep them alive, they can keep us alive. So we should be worried about their lives if we are worried about our own. Reports say that every 11 to 18 cops that are added to a community prevents at least one homicide. This hurts the community because if they kill cops, there is a higher chance that other citizens get killed. 

My claim is also important because the news a lot of the time distorts reality. This is shown when there is a cop who killed someone in self defense. There are bad cops who do deserve to make the news but specifically the ones who didn’t do anything against their code. The news a lot of times distort reality,  and makes it look like the cops have done something worse than they had. This is shown in many situations when a criminals motive was a news report about another situation similar to the one they were in. In the reports, there were lots of false information and overreactions to the reeal story. This can be solved if news stories start to not be opinion based and show real stories. This will cause less of these actions. 

Some people me say that these crimes are completely justified. Their reasoning is that there are some cops who are not good people. And I can agree with that. There are cops who do things that are unforgivable and that is not a good thing. But I argue that by saying that those bad cops do not represent every single cop. Just themselves. Most cops are actually really kind, respectful, and always happy to help you.
