Help pass a state law requiring shaded swings in Arizona playgrounds
The Issue
Every weekend, my autistic son eagerly anticipates our visits to the local park. For him, the swings are a source of immense joy and comfort. However, more often than not, his excitement turns to disappointment. In Arizona, where summer temperatures frequently soar beyond 100°F, the swings become unbearably hot, rendering them inaccessible for months on end. This challenge isn't unique to my family; it affects countless children across the state. Playgrounds should be inclusive and accessible spaces where all children, regardless of their abilities or the season, can play safely. Unfortunately, the scorching heat not only limits children's playtime but poses significant physical dangers, including burns and dehydration. By passing a state law requiring shaded swings in all public school and city playgrounds, Arizona has an opportunity to make a meaningful change. Shade structures mitigate the intense heat, making playground equipment safe and enjoyable for every child. Furthermore, shaded areas encourage longer outdoor playtime and reduce the risk of sunburns, heat strokes, and related illnesses. I invite state lawmakers, community leaders, and all Arizonans to join me in advocating for this practical and necessary improvement. Consider the positive impact shaded playgrounds will have on the health, safety, and happiness of our children. With ample evidence supporting the benefits of shaded play areas, it's time to act. Please sign this petition and help bring about a healthier and more inclusive future for Arizona's children. Together, we can ensure that no child is sidelined from play due to unshaded swings in the Arizona heat.
