Beautiful Blaise
A chihuahua was rescued from a brutal dog meat market.
March 1st, and it’s snowing tonight in Beijing. Winters are brutal, and our smallest and elderly dogs really suffer. They huddle behind their kennels close to the pellet heater. On days it does not snow, there is often rain, and the little paws become wet and sore.
That’s the life of little Blaise, our elderly chihuahua who has been with us since we rescued him from Henan Dog meat Market in 2022.
He started life bred to be a pet, but was rejected because he was ‘too big' for a chihuahua, and then thrown to the dog meat market for butchering.When we saved him, he was so weak we thought he wouldn’t survive, but he did.
Now he has survived 4 more brutal winters, his teeth missing, his feet callosed and his fur thinning.
We dream that one day he may find a home and thought he had last year, but the lady who loves this breed also rejected him for being ‘ too big’. That’s the problem: everyone wants perfection and love, and regard for sentience is no more, except amongst a loving few.
We share his story as one of the 700 beautiful souls at our China base who need homes. And until they do, they need food, shelter, veterinary care and love.
