Meet Marty,
We rescued him two days ago in China. He had been kept without food and water in a cage and the ‘ farmer’ had thrown him onto the pile of cages near rubbish where the dog meat trade van passes at night. When we tried to rescue him a fight broke out as dealers were demanding we pay them over $200. We managed to grab two cages. Marty is blind in at least one eye, barely weighs 2 kilo and severely malnourished and anaemic. Yet, local Hebei dealers considered him good for meat. Same story in Yulin where ‘ meat’ from dogs brutally slaughtered are being dried out to make bacon ‘jerky ‘ strips.
It’s hard going for Julia and our small team. Especially since temperature is plummeting to minus 6 and lower.
