The Yulin Festival has begun, and our small team are on the ground. Today, the Yulin market personnel assaulted Julia. They did not want her to document the cruelty. Security is tighter than ever, and it is evident that this is a lucrative business they are trying to protect.
There seemed to be fewer tourists and more locals—no surprise, given the number of dog meat restaurants bordering Vietnam's entire province. The dogs are no longer slaughtered on site but are hoarded in dirty warehouses in neighbouring villages and killed one by one in the dead of night in front of each other. You can hear their screams all around.
The dog and cat meat trade continues in Yulin and around Beijing, Hebei, and the North of China. We are doing all we can to interfere with the trade and have presented our petition to the local government officials.
Tomorrow, 21 June, we will try to rescue some of the innocent and urgently need your help. Once rescued, we must safely transport them back to Beijing, where we can give them veterinary care and sanctuary in our shelter until they can find loving homes.
Please donate whatever you can to our official fundraiser.
Thank you for caring, and let's never give up until the cruelty ends.
