

Three days ago, typhoon Doksuri hit China, and what followed was intense flooding in the Hebei region where our Yulin survivors and 500 dogs and cats live.
Amid darkness and chaos, our shelter fights to keep hope alive. With zero power and cut off from the outside world, the last 48 hours have been a relentless battle. The authorities forced our dedicated workers to evacuate, leaving our beloved dogs vulnerable and scared. But amidst the despair, a flicker of light emerges. Mr Zhao and three courageous volunteers have returned to the site, armed only with flashlights and unwavering determination.
We evacuated the sick and disabled dogs, providing them with the needed care. However, the others remain trapped, their fates uncertain. Our food is ruined so we urgently need to buy some and get it delivered.
But there is a glimmer of hope. Thanks to the incredible efforts of a volunteer with a 4x4, we now have a temporary refuge. Everyone can find solace in the car, charging their phones and finding respite from the darkness and rain.
Yet, despite the dire circumstances, Mr Zhao refuses to abandon those left behind. Together, they stand as a beacon of resilience, taking turns to stay awake checking on the dogs, liaising with authorities and giving us news when they can
So far, we have bought lifeboats, rafts the dogs can float on, headlamps, and a generator to pump water. But we still urgently need more supplies.
