THERE IS ANOTHER "ONLINE COMMUNITY CONSULTATION" TONIGHT MONDAY APRIL 4".
The City's "Independent Consultant" , DAVID DILK'S LURA CONSULTING ( which was awarded an untendered $275,000 contract to suppress and defuse community opposition) continues to run sporadic "online-only" sessions -- these phony, staged consultations have been written about here.....Controversial homeless project set for front lawn of a seniors home
In a nutshell, Mayor Tory, Councillor John Filion and Toronto Housing chief Abi Bond have absolutely refused to consider any other site in all of Willowdale or Toronto other than the front lawn of a low income seniors home to stack 59 single occupancy container living units ( which they called "modular housing" for a year and now last week have switched to calling an "apartment building"!) . They refuse the disclose the 50 other sites they claim to have assessed and rejected. Instead they want to destroy trees, grass and safe open parkland space that sits on the property of a city-run low income seniors supportive housing property, Willowdale Manor Seniors Care.
The City officials led by Mayor Tory have absolutely refused to work cooperatively and in consultation with the directly affected local residents and their families and friends to find better locations that don't involve stripping seniors of their parklands. MAYOR TORY REFUSES SENIORS
And these same City officials have repeatedly insulted and gotten their media friends at the Star, CBC, Blog TO and Globe to smear the Provincial officials and the local residents standing up for these vulnerable seniors!
They have done this all secretly and with zero oversight and accountability... in fact BCNA ( Bayview Cummer Neighourhood Association) president Mr Nathan Gomes through a series of "Freedom of Information" requests has uncovered a number of serious problems with the City's actions --- summarized here in a submission made March 9, 2022 ( which the City Integrity Commissioner and others have not acted upon). BCNA SUBMISSION RE IRREGULARITIES
You should be angry and worried about these dirty political tactics.
Next steps ----" this matter will be considered by Planning & Housing Committee on April 27th, 2022. Then the matter will be considered by Council at its May 11th, 2022 meeting. Following Council's decision on this matter and adoption of the associated zoning by-law amendment the City Clerk will issue the Notice of Decision."
So the City will reject all compromises to relocate this damaging project and instead simply rubber stamp its own plan on May 11th. Then the community can appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal. And face the enormous resources of a City hell bent on crushing all opposition to their ruinous secretly concocted plan.
We the residents of Willowdale demand that the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario permanently preserve the green treed parklands at 175 Cummer Avenue, Toronto. These parklands are cherished and provide solace and tranquility to over 600 seniors home residents of Willowdale Manor/Cummer Lodge, together with hundreds more staff and their families and local area residents.
We demand the City’s decision be cancelled. We further demand the Province take such steps as are necessary to permanently preserve the Willowdale Manor parklands at 175 Cummer Avenue Toronto against any future City of Toronto attempts to destroy or redevelop such parklands.
