Yes, Toronto City Councillor John Filion and his Chief of Staff Markus O'Brien continue to live large. While Filion's overstaffed office continues to insist on stripping vulnerable senior citizens of their amenities and their dignity. Filion has sold his home nearby and now lives far away from Willowdale, in the upscale and decidedly less diverse Beaches neighborhood. With 30 years of entrenched power and a taxpayer funded "separation allowance" and gold plated pension awaiting, the unpopular Filion no longer cares about the neighborhood he has abandoned, allowing O'Brien to try to position himself as successor.
With the pandemic as a smokescreen, Filion and City officials ( led by $200,000 a year imported Housing Czar Abi Bond) have secretly blown tens of millions of taxpayer dollars in a wild bid to deprive hundreds of elderly residents living at city-run Willowdale Manor seniors home of their cherished legally protected parklands .
They continue to avoid and ignore the pleas of hundreds of seniors and thousands of their family members, friends and local residents.
It is disturbing how the City of Toronto can claim to have a parklands priority policy to preserve and expand available urban greenspace, but when it comes to the hundreds of elderly residents of Willowdale Manor and Cummer Lodge in Willowdale on the northern border of Toronto, municipal officials insist on ignoring the seniors' rights to preserve dozens of decades old mature trees and grassy parklands that form part of their City-run seniors care homes grounds.
They insist on trampling the basic rights of vulnerable seniors and the rights of all citizens under the Planning Act to insist on compliance with basic land development rules.
