The Issue

The Virginia Beach Higher Education Center has been a critical resource for students at Old Dominion University. Many students heavily rely on this facility to pursue their academic goals, particularly as graduate nurse anesthesia students who require quiet and accessible spaces for study. With the recent changes in the building's hours of operation, countless students have been left struggling to find suitable study environments, severely impacting their preparation and performance.

Previously, the building offered extended hours that accommodated the rigorous schedules of nursing students. However, the new shortened hours, especially the closure on Sundays and early shutdowns on weekends, have left students with limited options. For students, balancing academic commitments with personal and work lives is already challenging, and losing access to a primary study space exacerbates these difficulties.

Full-time graduate students, particularly in demanding programs such as nursing, often find themselves in need of extended study hours to accommodate their tight schedules and complex coursework.

I urge the management of the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center to consider reopening on Sundays and extending weekend hours. Such changes would provide much-needed support to students who rely on these facilities, creating an environment conducive to our academic growth and success. Please sign this petition to help us advocate for this necessary change and ensure that we have the resources to succeed in our educational endeavors. Your support can make a significant difference in our academic lives.
