The meeting was with David Grabau & Damien Butler in Townsville. I believe what CGU is doing is a good start as it is risk assessment not risk assumption. I hope others follow. My concerns are: The risk reports remain the property of CGU/SUU & not the property of the actual complexes; The people producing the reports are not locals who know the area; They is no dispute resolution; Their mitigation suggestions could cause large expenditure outlay for complexes already stretched & if the complexes choose not to do them does that mean their premiums will rise; Refusal to undertake the mitigation may make a complex uninsurable; I think pre 1986 buildings are going to suffer; listed & period buildings don’t stand a chance. They have already undertaken 10 reports and 4 properties have had premium reductions of up to 15%. But if your premiums have gone up by 200-800% then the reductions should be 60-90% not 15%. We WANT, and the people of N. Qld NEED, parity with Brisbane.
