The Insurance Council of Australia today announces it is scoping a research program with North Queensland's James Cook University aimed at identifying the key exposures in strata-titled property in tropical regions that may be causing insurable losses. Mr Whelan said a detailed Terms of Reference for the research was being developed. Once the Terms are agreed, a JCU team headed by Dr David Henderson will commence its research in December, with results due by April 2013.
My comment: Since the majority of strata buildings being hit by 200 - 800% increases have had no claims due to floods or cyclones, its going to be hard for you to find insurable losses and "the key exposures" may be difficult to sort out.
If they are going to examine strata properites with claims in the last decade, they are missing out on all those complexes with HUGE hikes in insurance premiums which have had NO claims in the last decade!!
At least JCU may identify market failure, as they have local knowledge.
