Good morning.

If you’ve been to Mt Tabor within the last two weeks, you will have seen another set of survey stakes and markings emplaced throughout.  In a discussion last week with some of the regular patrons, the survey stakes seemed particularly wide set for what should be an access road only.

Yesterday I measured off the clearing stakes next to the parking lot, and they were set apart approximately 90’.  On two sets further down in the woods, I was only able to pace off the distance between the clearing stakes, but it was well over 100’.

Last week I emailed a Paulding County official to express our concerns and observations of the new survey markings.  This individual visited Mt Tabor on Monday and in an email response told me that the survey staking was NOT in line with the submitted plans for the access road.  He stated that the original plans for the access road were revised to allow for a narrower footprint, providing for the gravel access road to be 20’ wide, and the easement clearing for the road to be 50’ wide.  At the creek crossing there will be temporary sediment basins installed, making the cleared area wider than 50’.

I’ve been told that the county is following up on the situation, but the best guess at this point is that the access road was staked according to the original, unrevised plan.  How this could happen is a good question.  And would it have been possible that the incorrect survey staking could have led to an even bigger gash through our park?

Of course, this is just another chapter in a lousy story filled with disregard for a beautiful public park.

I will post again as more information becomes available.
