Private trees are very important to plant and protect for our environment they cool us and purify our air. Their leaves provide cover and nutrients for the earth.
If you have a heritage tree on your property that is not designated heritage, you should consider bringing a request to have a heritage designation. This will help you protect the tree in the event there is a threat of new construction near the base or canopy of the tree.
Don't wait until the construction is about to begin. Write down the story about the tree and send your story to the LBNA for consideration of Heritage Tree Designation and they will help forward your recommendation to Urban Forestry if they agree.
I am still fighting to protect my Eastern White Cedars. I won at the COA hearing In May, I am waiting for the new application to the COA in August.
We have to support saving our existing trees, we still need to plant even more. We can build houses on the original footprint of homes, or with additions that are sensitive to protecting the surrounding natural environment.
Respect for all living things, that is a good way forward.
