The Issue
I hope this message finds everyone well. I am writing on behalf of concerned residents of our community regarding a pressing safety issue on East Church Street, School Street and the surrounding avenues, particularly within the school zone. As you may be aware, these roads are frequented by children who are either walking, playing outside, or riding their bikes, especially during peak hours before and after school.
Due to the narrowness of East Church Street, compounded by vehicles parked on both sides, the roadway becomes increasingly hazardous for pedestrians and cyclists alike. The current speed of drivers along these routes poses a significant risk to our youth and community members, who deserve safe access to their neighborhood and school.
In light of these concerns, we respectfully petition the town hall to consider the installation of speed bumps or speed humps along East Church Street and School Street. Research indicates that such measures effectively reduce vehicle speeds and enhance safety in areas where children are present. Additionally, we propose the installation of "Children at Play" signs to further alert drivers of the presence of children and encourage them to exercise caution. I would like to see a “Children at Play” sign posted on School Street and E Church Street.
By implementing these traffic calming solutions and signage, we can help create a safer environment for our children and promote responsible driving behaviors.
We believe that the well-being of our community, particularly our younger residents, is of utmost importance. We ask for your support in addressing this critical issue and look forward to your favorable response.
Thank you for considering our request to enhance the safety of our community. We are eager to collaborate with you on potential solutions that will benefit our community.
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizens of Washington
