In 2012 a young man Noa Begic was arrested and bashed by 4 police officers in Surfers Paradise . All charges against Noa were dropped. Sgt Rick Flori has since been accused of leaking footage of the bashing to the media. He has now been stood down, and in June 2015 charged with misconduct in a public office and is facing criminal charges and potentially 7 years in prison.The officers that participated in the assault, retained their jobs in the Queensland Police Service and were even promoted. One in particular David Joachim joined the QPS after being moved from NSW following an alleged cover up which was detailed in an investigation called "Pelican Brief". The undersigned petitioners call for all charges against Sgt Rick Flori to be dropped. If the people are to have faith in the police force and the judicial system, transparency is vital. We find it completely unacceptable that officers involved in a serious assault on a member of the public, have retained their jobs and are not facing criminal charges. We applaud Sgt Rick Flori and believe that his alleged actions are what the people want to see from the police force. We believe that Sgt Rick Flori is an example of the caliber of police that the people would have faith in. Sgt Rick Flori's story.
