Help hold UON accountable for not marking papers, and threatening our degrees

The Issue

Student's at the University of Nottingham are at risk of not reaching their future prospects due to the University refusing to mark their papers.

Due to the recent Marking Boycott thousands of student's papers have gone unmarked and their results replaced with weighted averages of previously completed work. Information on how this is calculated: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/qualitymanual/2-documents/contingency-classification-and-progression-regs/contingency-regulations-how-to-calculate-a-derived-mark-ug.pdf

If students wish to have their work marked they have been presented with a threatening, predatory and coercive ultimatum: Either accept the given grades, or if you wish to have your hard work marked "this may mean that you will not have your marks in time to progress to your next year of study. You may not be able to re-register in September, and you may lose access to grant and loan funding." as written by the Head of the school of Mathematical sciences (27/6).

This is forcing students to accept the false marks, putting them under time pressure to make a decision, having only between 18/7 and 21/7 to give an answer. Were a student to face the risks of having their work marked, the exams have been made inherently unfair as only some would have their true mark and others would be retaining the false one.

The University should be held accountable. They've leveraged the time sensitivity of the situation into blackmail against students rightfully having their abilities fairly assessed in order to cut the cost of marking the papers. They should be made to adequately compensate students for failing to deliver the expected service as well as for threatening the continuity of their degree. Help hold them accountable.
