Petition to Get Recycling Bins at Ironside State School 
Climate change. Our awaiting deaths. It has caused over 4 million deaths since the year 2000. And it is going to cause more. It is so important that we act- and it starts now. Every step we take to a greener future is better, no matter how small it is, so I encourage you to read on, and discover how signing this petition matters. 
This petition, like any other, has a goal. Ours is that our school, Ironside State School, should adopt the Brisbane recycling bin system for public schools. Our school has equipped the containers for change bins, as well as our general waste, however there are currently no student recycling bins available. We need to address our problem, remember every step forward is a leap towards stopping climate change.  
But first, how does recycling link towards the global issue of climate change? Well, recycling saves energy and prevents the extraction of raw materials, which can help not only minimize waste and landfill, but also help save our oceans. Aquatic animals are suffocating as you read this. Our beautiful waters, that our life relies on, is being clouded with litter, microplastics, as well as things like fishing nets, all of which are having long and short-term effects on our ocean animals, their habitats, their breeding areas, and many other things. Later in this text, I will talk about some other effects climate change has on our waters. 
We need to save our oceans, as their fate is our own. And we can do this through smaller steps, and our solution is small, though is any step towards a greener future small? So, support me and my friends at Ironside by helping us sign this petition. Our school only has a container for change, and general waste, and no available recycling bins. 
Why this matters. 
 1. Reduces litter at school 
Tuck-shop wrappers, food wrapping, and many other items can be recycled, however they are carelessly tossed into a general waste- or even littered- without a second thought of what doing that will affect in our environment. This means that countless animals are affected. Aquatic and Terrestrial animals are all harmed as they get caught in plastic bags, food wrappers, and other things- in the ocean, even animals like sharks can be harmed- by accidentally eating a plastic bag, or getting caught in litter. By reducing litter in our school- we are helping our oceans- and are helping our school look good in the process.  
2. Educational value 
By adopting a recycling bin program, we are utilizing an educational aspect. Ironside students will be able to learn about how important recycling is, and what it is. Students will be able to understand what the start of the recycling cycle is. This will improve the educational aspect of students- specifically grade 4s- as they study it.  
3. Impact: The impact of recycling is massive- it reduces the need for extracting minerals, as well as refining and processing raw materials all of which create a large amount of water pollution. Plus, it has an impact on our local school as well. Not only will our school look nicer, but it may also get even more support from the government for adopting this system. 
What we are asking for. 
All we are asking for you to do is to sign this petition. We will be sending this to Ms. Kelly (The current school principal) to help persuade her with our case. Please share, comment and sign this- because you will make a difference. Our goal is to get over 300 signatures from people from all year levels at Ironside and show it to the school to ensure that our school will get recycling bins. So, we urge you to sign this.
