The Issue

My name is Cathy Mackenzie and I'm writing this petition on behalf of my daughter, Sarah Alred, who has been incarcerated since 2017. She is serving an 18 year and 9-month federal prison sentence for a non-violent drug offense, a sentence that is far too long and unjust for someone who never committed a violent crime and who has made incredible strides toward rebuilding her life.
Like so many others who have struggled with addiction, Sarah made poor choices during a dark time in her life. She has taken full responsibility for those decisions. She does not make excuses. Instead, she has worked tirelessly to change — not just for herself, but for her children, her family, and her future.
Sarah is a mother of three boys, and despite the hardship of being separated from them, she has stayed strong and focused on becoming someone they can be proud of. Over the past several years, she has:

•    Earned her GED
•    Completed the Non-Residential Drug Program, The Resolve Program, Threshold, Foundation, Work Force Training, and Finical Literacy
•    Become certified in HVAC, Solar Panel Installation, CPR, Forklift, OSHA 30.
•    Enrolled in a unique program that allows her to attend in-person college classes while incarcerated

•    Graduated in December 2025 an associate’s degree in Sociology and Liberal Arts
•    Actively mentors others through peer support, orientation for new inmates, and leads FSA workshops to help others understand the path to rehabilitation

Sarah is not the same woman who entered prison. She is a changed person, a strong, compassionate, educated, and deeply remorseful mother who wants to come home and be with her family.

We are asking for clemency or a reduction in her sentence so Sarah can return to her children and continue contributing to society in a meaningful way. Her sentence does not reflect the person she is today or the progress she’s made.

Please sign and share this petition to help bring Sarah home. Every signature is one more voice saying that people deserve second chances — especially when they've worked so hard to earn them. God bless.

Thank you for your support. 💔🙏
