Help Free al-Singace
The issue
As an Australian, I am fortunate to live in a society where I can express my thoughts and call for changes without fear of persecution. Likewise, I have access to up-to-date, uncensored, and accurate information, allowing me to think critically and form my own opinions. Such freedoms, however, are not enjoyed universally, which is why this petition seeks to bring attention to the current situation of Abduljalil Al-Singace, a human rights activist and scholar, jailed in Bahrain's Jau Prison for practising similar rights.
Al-Singace was incarcerated in 2011 for peacefully advocating democratic reforms during the Arab Spring uprising (Amnesty International 2022). He has faced intolerable conditions, including torture and extended solitary confinement, simply for expressing his viewpoints. His health dramatically deteriorated during his imprisonment, and despite his persistently critical condition, he has been brutally denied access to adequate medical assistance (Amnesty International 2022).
Bahraini authorities’ blatant respect for International Human Rights Standards should be of universal concern and compels us to act. We're calling on the Australian Government to urge the Bahraini Government to release Abduljalil Al-Singace and ensure his right to appropriate medical care is respected while he remains under their jurisdiction.
It is our moral responsibility as global citizens to protect the fundamental rights of individuals, regardless of geographical or political boundaries. Stand with us in demanding justice for Abduljalil Al-Singace. Sign this petition.
