Help First Year Leeds Beckett Students pass onto Their Second Year of Study!
The Issue
Given the current situation of COVID-19, the stress of having to cope with the uncertainty about exams and coursework, whilst in isolation is very wearing. It is inexcusable that Leeds Beckett University is asking their first year students to carry on as normal in these surreal conditions.
The exceptional amount of stress, which is being placed on the students by Leeds Beckett University is overwhelming. Not to mention, this extraordinary situation which has left students questioning their foreseeable future. Moreover, Leeds Beckett University has not taken into account those students who see themselves in a more vulnerable position, unable to access University resources they desperately require to complete their studies. 'Online Lectures' are simply not enough.
Leeds Beckett University prides itself on integrity, leadership, and professionalism. Yet, failing to guide their students through this strenuous time and expecting the impossible is conflicting these morals.
Across the nation, there have been many University institutions that have followed in the steps of one another, by canceling their first-year examinations in these unprecedented times. It is completely unfair and unwarranted that Leeds Beckett University has not followed suit. We are requesting that Leeds Beckett University supports its students in this matter, where the nation is supposed to be pulling together, as stated in our Prime Minister's announcement and our Majesty the Queen's speech.
In comparison, GCSE and A-Level students have had a more certain resolution in regards to their examinations and their next steps into higher education. Furthermore, the situation that University students find themselves in has been overlooked and uncorroborated by the Government.
We, the first year students of Leeds Beckett University, implore that we are automatically advanced into our second year of study.
