Help fight Poverty in Rural Areas in Australia.

Help fight Poverty in Rural Areas in Australia.
The issue
Who is affected?
Poverty in Australia, particularly in Rural Areas has dramatically increased in the past few years. New Data from Australian Council of Social Services suggests that there has been a dramatic increase in Poverty in Australia in the last few years, particularly Rural Areas. Data suggests that since 2019, 1 in 8 Australian Adults are currently living in Poverty and 1 in 6 Children are currently living in Poverty.
Poverty in Indigenous households is also an ongoing Issue that still sees thousands of First Nations Australians unable to provide the bare minimum for their families. Roughly 30% of Indigenous Australians live in Income Poverty which is a lot of people considering they only take up about 3% of the Australian Population.
Poverty and employment:
People who experience poverty have a much lower chance of getting employed as they might lack resources needed to apply for work. As of 2023, 2/3 Australians living in Poverty were unemployed and 15% of casual workers were living in Poverty.
What are the effects?
Poverty in Australia has often lead to increased rate of mental health conditions, hunger and poor hygiene, In families and other communities it can lead to not being able to provide basic resources and many other needs. Someone with poverty if much more likely to get unwell than someone without Poverty due to lack of medical care and supplies. In Australia, malnutrition is the most common condition for someone living with poverty and is caused by the quality and quantity of the food and drinks often lacking nutrients. In rural areas, It is already much harder to get supplies than in the inner city or suburb so with higher poverty rates, we need more resources to be provided and more opportunities for people living in these conditions so their voices can be heard.
