Team Eric now has over 220 active caring members.
t's truly incredible the short time that has passed since this was first made public. (only three days) Eric is very happy to know that so many people are willing to stand behind him and demand what's right. Thanks everybody.
I had someone ask me about the wheelchair he needs and "what was the color thing about?" I thought now would be a good time to answer those questions. There was a point several months ago when it looked like everything was coming together, Eric had been back for another fitting (this is what happens when you're growing) and his mom was asked "What color do you want?" Not knowing there were any "options" to be had and not knowing that there was any difference, mom said "red". This was submitted along the normal channels as expected and a few weeks later came a response.
"Rejected, that's an optional item and it will cost $50." that's right, the color of the chair was an issue. Isn't this pathetic?
Keep in mind this isn't your ordinary wheelchair. It's an electrically powered unit that will permit three very important things.
1) Eric will be capable of independent movement, meaning that staff won't need to push him around. At present staff must push his manual chair wherever the staff understands Eric wants to go.
2) Eric will be able to simultaneously communicate with his Dynavox at the same time he's in motion. At present the existing chair will permit either the chair's motors OR the Dynavox to be connected. The new chair will permit both to be connected at the same time. The rest of us can move about and talk at the same time. Eric's new chair will permit him to do this too.
3) Eric will be able to change his position himself. Just like you or I can. The controls on the new chair are very sophisticated and will permit him the same freedoms that the rest of us have - this is the point here. Eric will have the means to move about like his peers.
Please take a moment and send an email, text a link, mention Eric to a stranger, tell somebody, anybody and politely ask them to do the same. This little boy deserves every opportunity we can find for him and up to now the only thing that he and his mother have received in this effort has been the headache from the insurance company and your loving support.
Tell your friends: "search change.org for "Eric, wheelchair", this pulls him right up. or you can email or text them the link to this page. Just tell somebody, every day!!
Thanks again everybody!!
