Help Encourage the Creation of Family-Friendly Spaces in the Six Corners Area

Help Encourage the Creation of Family-Friendly Spaces in the Six Corners Area
The Issue
More and more families with young children are moving into the neighborhoods around Six Corners, yet we face a significant shortfall in family-oriented social spaces. There's a glaring lack of locations where children can play, families can dine, or folks can simply gather to foster community ties. Without such spaces, we're resigned to long drives to other areas to meet these basic social needs.
Historically, the 6 Corners area has been a vibrant hub in the city. Unfortunately, the current trend towards establishing more big box stores and parking lots threatens to overshadow its potential as a nurturing locality for families. We're looking to build further support to champion development that aligns with the spirit of our neighborhood.
We propose a shift in development focus that includes playgrounds, family restaurants, and green spaces (picture a smaller version of the wonderful space in Rosemont that includes restaurants, bowling, music & comedy venues, and outdoor areas where kids can play). Such infrastructure would not only cater to the growing family demographic but also enhance the area's appeal to residents and visitors alike.
Recent studies show that community spaces contribute significantly to child development and family welfare. The Trust for Public Land highlights that having accessible parks and communal areas can reduce crime rates and improve overall mental and physical health within a neighborhood. Additionally, urban planning research indicates that walkable neighborhoods with integrated social spaces increase property values, reduce pollution, and foster a stronger sense of community.
Join us in advocating for a future where families in the 6 Corners area can thrive, by encouraging the development of family-friendly amenities and spaces.
Sign this petition to urge local authorities and developers to commit to family-friendly projects for our area.
