WE CAN STOP IT HERE! Sign up now to attend this critical Boulder County meeting on the evening of Tues Aug 30 and have your voice heard. Sign up today at www.tlag.org/august-30th-bvcp-meeting/ Also click here to RSVP at the Owl Preserve Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/BoulderOwlPreserve/events/233499149/ ------------------------------------- For more than a year, Boulder residents have said "I am with you, just tell me what I can do". Now is that time - we need you, your spouse, in-laws, out-laws, neighbors and friends to attend the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan (BVCP) County Joint Hearing. This meeting will be held on August 30th at 4:00 p.m. on the third floor of the County Court House - 1325 Pearl Street. If you can't come until later still sign up, you can join the meeting in-progress – this will be a long meeting. Now is our opportunity to tell the Commissioners in person that we want to: 1) Protect open space that is the site of the proposed Boulder Great Horned Owl Preserve. Colorado's most famous owls have called Twin Lakes home for more than 30 years. The Owls need their hunting meadow to survive at Twin Lakes. Each year the parent owls raise two to four baby owlets that help populate a range of other natural areas for hundreds of miles around. 2) Tell the commissioners that Boulder County must not bulldoze the 20 acre Owl Hunting Meadow but instead must work with the Boulder and Gunbarrel communities to create the Great Horned Owl Preserve. Each year one hundred thousand people visits occur at Twin Lakes - many of them specifically to see the owls. It is a true miracle to see the parent owls feeding their young and the baby owlets taking their first flights. 3) The City of Boulder must not be allowed to seize Boulder County open space to advance the political agenda of growing the city in size and density. The survival of the Owls is more important than an attempt to triple property taxes in GunBarrel and seize transformer stations from Xcel Energy to form a Boulder electric company. WE CAN STOP IT HERE! The Housing Authority’s plans to develop in Twin Lakes assumes—and relies upon— the City seizing Boulder Country Open Space. On Tuesday August 16th, City Council voted unanimously to annex 12 parcels of land to further their plans to form a Boulder electric company and hike property taxes in now rural areas. Whether continue sky-rocketing construction levels or to seize transformer stations, Boulder needs to annex and Bulldoze the Owl Hunting Meadow to advance their agendas. The City and County are trying to set a precedent of annexation through Open Space. On August 30th we need you to deliver this message: NOT AT TWIN LAKES and NOT IN GUNBARREL! On Thursday August 18, the Boulder County Commissioners voted to hire an architectural firm for Twin Lakes – 2 ½ months before a final land use designation is made. The Commissioners and Boulder County Housing Authority assume this is a done deal, despite constituents’ concerns – come tell them: NO IT ISN’T! Twin Lakes Action Group and the Boulder Owl Preserve organization has kept us in the game, but now we need YOUR VOICE. The Boulder County final review for the BVCP land-use change is August 30th and the corresponding City final review meeting is October 13th - our goal is to fill the room, pack the hallways, and spill outside - only YOU can help us reach that goal.
