For me and my friends, embracing our disabilities is a vital part of who we are. We believe that it’s time to celebrate disability pride—an event that not only raises awareness but also fosters acceptance, inclusion, and solidarity.

Many individuals with disabilities feel marginalized and unseen. According to the World Health Organization, over one billion people worldwide have some form of disability, making them the largest minority group in the world. Despite this, society often falls short in providing spaces where we feel truly welcomed and understood. This is why we need a dedicated Disability Pride Day, a day where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can join together to celebrate diversity and advocate for change.

Creating an inclusive and accessible Disability Pride Day would allow us to bring attention to the barriers faced by people with disabilities and highlight their achievements and contributions to society. Such an event would provide an opportunity for individuals to share their stories and inspire others, thus fostering a community that values empathy and understanding.

Access to venues, transport, and materials must be universally designed to ensure full participation by people of all abilities. Compliance with accessibility standards must be a priority, and representation from all sectors of the disability community is essential.
