help bring ascots back to the RCAC dress regulations

The Issue

Why should we bring the ascot back?

  1. Enhances ESPRE DE CORPS
  2. Has been a staple in cadet dress uniform for years
  3. Fosters a sense of regimental pride
  4. Pride in one's uniform
  5. Is a long-standing military tradition
  6. Symbolizes allegiance
  7. Symbolizes professionalism
  8. Cadets feel a deeper connection with the heritage and values of their organization
  9. Fosters a sense of unity

How are we, as cadets, impacted?

The removal of the ascot from the RCAC dress regulations has an impact on the cadet experience. The ascot, with its distinctive design and regimental colours, wasn't only a symbolic piece of the C1 dress uniform but also a symbol of pride and identity for senior cadets. It being removed has many cadets feeling a sense of loss, as it was a unique element that set them apart and connected them to a tradition within the RCAC. Additionally, the ascot was a great representation of the hard work and achievements of individual cadets wearing one, providing a marker of their progress and commitment. It was often seen as a symbol of dedication, as cadets earned the ascot for their accomplishments as senior cadets. The decision to remove the ascot may have altered the way cadets perceive their uniforms and their sense of camaraderie. As a result, the change in dress may have subtle but meaningful effects on the morale and sense of belonging among RCAC.

What is at stake?

The removal of the ascot from the RCAC has negative consequences. Its elimination risks the historical and symbolic significance of the cadet program. By removing this element, there is the removal of the motivational and aspirational aspects of the cadet experience. The decision not only affects the aesthetic appeal of the uniform but also gets rid of the esprit de corps among cadets, potentially undermining the very values the cadet program seeks to instill, such as leadership, discipline, and a sense of duty. Overall, what is at stake is not just a piece of fabric but the intangible elements that contribute to the unique and meaningful experience of being a part of the RCAC.
