Help amend House Bill 250 to stop the restriction of cellphones in schools.
The Issue
I recently read about House Bill 250 being passed and I was shocked. I've heard about cellphones being restricted, and even banned in other states and have heavily disliked the notion that the state can infringe upon students' communications and education.
House Bill 250 specifically states "School district(s) may adopt a policy prohibiting pupils students from carrying an electronic communications device in any school building or on any school grounds or premises of the district." (House Bill 250).
That means phones could be banned in schools.
I live in a world where every day I question if it's my last, due to the fact that my school could get shot up. School shooters are real. According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, in 2023 alone, there were 349 school shootings. 349 school shootings. Recently, at Mariemont High School (a local high school in Cincinnati), a student was found planning a school shooting. If my high school ever gets shot up, I want a way to call for help and potentially tell my parents goodbye because my life is at risk and I might not be able to tell them about what I learned in History class today after I get home from school.
We've waited too long to say no about this policy and rampant issue in this country. Don't let the government allow schools to tell us when and where we can communicate with our parents. Fight back, and sign today.
