Help a Resilient Single Mother Keep Her Family Together in the Home They Love: Australia

The issue

My name is Jennifer Choong. I’m seeking your help with my family’s immigration situation in Australia. We are currently facing possible deportation and a three-year exclusion ban from this beautiful country we call home.

 Our Journey

We came to Australia as a family on May 26, 2012. Over the last 12 years, Australia has become our beloved home. My children have grown up in Australia’s education, culture, and community, integrating themselves with its best values. Nothing brings us more happiness than being able to call this incredible country our home.

The Struggles We Face

Through a business visa (subclass 164), I invested in a franchise restaurant and fell victim to a fraudulent business. This cost me my marriage, house, and life savings.

After briefly returning to Malaysia, I worked tirelessly to establish a new business that met the requirements for a permanent visa.
In 2016, we applied for permanent residency. Still, our application was refused due to severe errors made by our previous migration agent, such as the agent's failure to present evidence requested by the Tribunal.

We were only granted a restricted visa in 2021, which has hindered my children’s ability to pursue higher education and career opportunities. They are forced to watch from the sidelines as their peers progress further.

Our Commitment to the Community

I've become deeply engaged in my local community by volunteering with Bread of Life and the Blackburn Chaplaincy Support Group. Giving back to the local community is my core fundamental value.

My thriving business boosts the Australian economy by generating tax revenue and creating local jobs. I’ve also formed strong partnerships with local businesses to support our community further.

The Impact of Separation

The uncertainty about our visa status has taken a toll on our family. As my eldest is of age, he cannot reapply for a visa with us. The thought of separation after all we’ve been through is heartbreaking. We’ve built our lives here, made strong friendships, and created lasting memories.

We need your help.

Our Request to Mr Tony Burke, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs of Australia

We respectfully ask Mr Tony Burke, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, to review our visa situation. We are not looking for sympathy but a fair chance to secure a favourable decision, allowing our family to continue contributing to Australian society and the economy as permanent residents.

Our heartfelt plea for your support

We kindly ask you to sign this petition and share it with your friends and family. Your support can help urge the Minister to grant us permanent residency in Australia, as it's the only place we call home.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We remain hopeful for a positive resolution so that we can continue contributing to this beautiful country.
