Freedom for my mother Nahid Taghavi #freenahid

The Issue

German / English

German-Iranian woman in Evin prison since October 16, 2020.

My 66-year-old mother Nahid Taghavi has been unexpectedly and arbitrarily arrested on October 16, 2020, in her apartment in Tehran, Iran. Her German passport and other personal items were confiscated. She is being held incommunicado and without charge in the notorious Evin Prison.

Evin Prison is a grim place known for mass executions, torture and very poor prison conditions. We do not know the reason for her arrests. She is denied access to our lawyer. Although she is a German citizen, she is not given consular access. My mother is a political prisoner of the Islamic Republic of Iran. She is already threatened with torture and other severe mistreatment.

We are particularly concerned about my mother's state of health. She has been suffering dangerous high blood pressure and related cardiovascular problems for years. We don’t know whether she is receiving medical care.

Therefore, I demand from Foreign Minister Heiko Maas: finally act and use your function to exert diplomatic pressure on Iran. When it comes to the rights of individuals, respecting human rights and advocating for lawful procedures should be the top priority. A human right isn’t a national agreement, should meet international standards, and should never take precedence over economic interests. For this reason, I urge you to join us in advocating for the release of my mother, Nahid Taghavi, and thus advocate for political fairness and the rights of people in Iran.

Please stand up for the release of my mother Nahid Taghavi and show that you care about the fate of a German citizen.

Please also sign this petition and support me in my fight for the release of my mother. The more who join, the greater the chance that we can make a difference. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Unjust judicial system and systematic human rights violations in Iran.

Systematic human rights violations in an unjust judicial system are commonplace in Iran. Lawyers, journalists, religious minorities and any dissenters are arbitrarily arrested. The prisoner is principally guilty. In custody, the only thing that counts is extorting evidence and confessions - these come from hours of interrogation, torture and solitary confinement. The political prisoners are not allowed to receive legal counselling or visitors and are thus exposed to the interrogation and torture methods without protection. Once the so-called investigative phase is over, the prisoner still doesn't have access to a self-selected lawyer, but is assigned a lawyer approved by the system - these lawyers are not independent. In unfair and secret trials, the defendants are then sentenced to arbitrary prison terms and punishment methods such as whippings.

Please sign and share this petition in your networks so that I can hold my mother again soon!
