Healthcare Professionals Call for Protection of Civilians and Medical Neutrality in Iran

Healthcare Professionals Call for Protection of Civilians and Medical Neutrality in Iran
The Issue
We, the undersigned individuals, express our solidarity with the people of Iran and our deep concern regarding the continued use of violence against civilians, including peaceful protesters.
We honor the courage of Iranian citizens who have taken to the streets to demand dignity, fundamental freedoms, and accountable governance, often at great personal risk. Their bravery reflects a clear and sustained call for change.
We recognize and commend healthcare professionals in Iran who, in accordance with medical ethics, have provided care to injured protesters despite intimidation, surveillance, detention, and threats. The protection of medical neutrality is a core humanitarian principle. Any interference with medical care or retaliation against health workers constitutes a grave violation of human rights.
We condemn the actions of the Islamic Republic that amount to systematic human rights abuses, including the use of lethal force against civilians, arbitrary detention, torture, and suppression of free expression. These actions demand independent investigation and accountability through appropriate international mechanisms.
We call on the United States and Western governments to move beyond statements of concern and take concrete, coordinated actions to support the Iranian people. These actions should include diplomatic pressure, targeted accountability measures against perpetrators, support for civil society, and protection for human rights defenders, in line with international law.
We acknowledge the six publicly articulated requests presented by Reza Pahlavi as part of the broader opposition discourse, including calls for maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic, support for nationwide strikes, access to secure internet, accountability for crimes against humanity, assistance to political prisoners, and recognition of a democratic alternative. We affirm that these demands reflect the urgent need for an organized and legitimate transition framework.
We therefore call for international recognition and engagement with a credible, democratic transitional authority in exile, capable of representing the will of the Iranian people and facilitating a peaceful transition to a secular, rights-based system of governance.
By signing this petition, we affirm our support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom, for the protection of healthcare workers and patients, and for accountability for crimes committed against civilians. Signatures reflect personal views only and do not represent any employer or institution.
