We urge Mayor of London to fund provision of oxygen monitors ( probes) for London homes

The Issue

We urge the Mayor to help the people of London save thousands of lives – and our NHS – by procuring and distributing oxygen saturation probes to homes across the country's capital, which has been worst hit by Covid 19.

While a sore throat, aches and pains, a headache and dry cough are some of the more well-known physical symptoms of Covid 19, silent but potentially deadly Covid-related, ‘Silent’ Hypoxia, is killing thousands of patients.

Deaths which may have been prevented with a simple home test.

Covid 19 can lead to a dangerously low drop in oxygen levels in the blood. While a patient might seem responsive, they are actually hypoxic - meaning their oxygen levels may be low enough to lead to death in the most severe cases.

In a bid to help prevent these unnecessary deaths by identifying cases of silent hypoxia early enough, I urge the Mayor of London to support the provision of oxygen saturation monitors (probes) so that members of the public with suspected Covid can check the oxygen levels in their blood at home.

These simple electronic devices, which clip onto the finger and give a percentage reading, are a vital tool to help guide patients, and when clinicians are making remote assessments of a patient’s condition (i.e. by phone or video) to help guide whether urgent/emergency medical help is needed.

For the sake of our nation’s well-being and our overstretched NHS, we urge the Mayor to action the procurement and distribution of Oxygen probes to households around London NOW.

Lives matter – and more delays mean more deaths that could have been prevented.
