Healthcare Infrastructure Investment nt in Chilliwack

Healthcare Infrastructure Investment nt in Chilliwack
The Issue
Recent firsthand experience at Chilliwack General Hospital revealed serious concerns about facility capacity and readiness:
• Emergency department overcrowding has become routine
• Patients are treated in hallways due to space limitations
• Aging infrastructure shows visible signs of deferred maintenance
• Portions of hospital space remain unused due to staffing and funding constraints
• Rapid population growth has not been matched by proportional healthcare expansion
Healthcare workers continue to provide exceptional care under immense pressure. This petition is not a criticism of frontline professionals — it is a call for responsible planning and infrastructure investment.
Chilliwack residents deserve:
• Modern healthcare facilities
• Capacity that matches population growth
• Transparent regional funding decisions
• Infrastructure planning that reflects community needs
It feels like the government has forgotten about the communities East of Surrey. Chilliwack is one of the fastest growing cities in BC, and also one of the least funded.
We call upon provincial decision-makers, Fraser Health leadership, and local elected officials to commit to clear timelines and funding plans for healthcare infrastructure improvements in Chilliwack.
We urge decision-makers to:
1️⃣ Commit to a public timeline for hospital expansion
2️⃣ Allocate capital funding proportional to population growth
3️⃣ Improve transparency in regional healthcare spending
4️⃣ Engage local leaders in infrastructure planning
Chilliwack is not a small town anymore.
Our healthcare infrastructure must reflect that reality.
