Healthcare
The issue
Healthcare is a huge thing in Australia, being a safety net for many Australians who can’t cover the outrages prices their professional asks for.Today, I will be campaigning that the Australian government should invest more money into Healthcare. The biggest challenge identified was the rising out-of-pocket costs for GP or doctor’s appointments.
Although the Australian government invested lots of money in the past, spending 188.2 billion dollars in 2023-2024, this investment has dropped. 188.2 billion dollars sounds like a lot of money, which it is. However, this leaves around 6500 dollars per Australian and the amount of money these professionals ask for rakes up real fast with GPs and dentist appointments. Now the investment has dropped, the problems due to healthcare will increase more due to cost of living. . 74% of respondents stated that recent increases in cost of living impacted their healthcare decisions.
This leads to many problems like Australians having to pay extra to even visit their GPs or Australians having to delay their visit to their GPs due to them not having the money to be able to pay them. This leads to even bigger problems with people’s health that could be even more dangerous, more complex and even more expensive. For example, high blood pressure, Diabetes and early stages of cancer have no symptoms at first, which means the normal Australian can’t decipher if it is actually major or is a minor thing. If even visiting a GP is very expensive, many Australians will waver it off. This leads to these Major, early none symptom problems with people’s health to worsen overtime, leading to even more complicated surgeries or even emergency room time. Another issue with the lack of funding towards healthcare is the long waiting times and lack of GPs. These problems are even worse in regional. 43% of patients who visited the ED said that, on reflection, their concerns could have been managed by a GP or urgent care clinic instead.
