End international travel bans and allow travel for fully vaccinated visitors

The Issue

Last year, during the early days of the COVID pandemic we didn’t have many tools to deal with the situation especially the detection of virus, and management of the disease.  Now we have multiple vaccinations for COVID, and many of them are already approved by World Health Organization (WHO).  So continuing the travel ban on international travelers in many parts of the world including US, EU, India, Middle East and elsewhere seems to be indefensible and poorly thought out.

Instead of blanket travel bans against all the international travelers, why not find some solutions to allow travel in a calculated manner. Some thoughts are:

  • Allow fully vaccinated passengers to commence travel with a negative COVID test 48 or 72 hours before the departure
  • Enforce rapid COVID test at the departure point and the point of entry
  • Enforce temperature checks for all the international passengers as an additional step
  • Enforce masks on airplane and in airports
  • Enforce negative tests multiple times every week for employees of airlines and all the airport staff

The government agencies should also leverage any other tools and solutions available at their disposal. Why not leverage all the tools available at our disposal instead of a blanket travel ban?

Could you please take appropriate steps and at least allow passengers who are fully vaccinated?.

Thank you.
