Greetings everyone! Thanks for your signatures and comments. We are all passionate about our rights and would like to see them legally recognized in Hawaii. Below is the "letter to legislators" form of the petition and the email addresses of all the Hawaii legislators. If you'd be willing to copy and paste the "letter" into the body of an email and then copy and paste the addresses into the address line of the email, our representatives would get at least a few notices of our desire to have our rights recognized by them. The Change.org website allows for only one address to be included for automatic forwarding of all signers, and since there is no single person in the Hawaii legislature to address this to, I'm asking your help here to get the petition to them. Change.org has not been helpful in response to the request for multiple email addresses to be included automatically, nor on several other "technical" issues. On a side note, I see that a (just defeated) lawsuit in Illinois, re the fact that Illinois restricts issue of non-resident CCW licenses to CCW-holding residents of only FOUR states, one of which is Hawaii. In other words, they will only grant non-resident CCW licenses to residents of THREE states. You can't make this stuff up! P.S. Edit 12/14/15 I just updated the list of legislator email addresses to account for some changes since last year when I first compiled that list. Sorry about getting the return emails for the invalid ones. * * * * * Dear Legislator, I urge you as a Hawaii state legislator to vote for allowing law-abiding Hawaii citizens to exercise their natural/God-given, fundamental, individual, enumerated, Constitutionally-guaranteed civil right to bear arms for self-defense. One way you could do this is by voting for SB95. The United States Constitution AND the Hawaii State Constitution both state: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." While the state of Hawaii has many laws that clearly infringe on the right to keep arms, perhaps no law is more egregious than the de facto “no issue” law (which is theoretically “may issue”) that has resulted in NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF HAWAII currently being "granted" a concealed carry license to legally exercise their right to bear arms outside their home for the purpose of self-defense. There are well over 13 million CCW license/permit holders in the 45 other states that allow citizens to exercise their right to bear arms outside their homes, and many more individuals who bear arms in those eight states that allow “constitutional carry” (where no permit/license is required and thus there is no record of their numbers). These people, over many years, have proven to be not only far more law-abiding that the general population, but even more law-abiding than law enforcement officers. Why do the government officials of Hawaii treat law-abiding citizens as if they are criminals who have been deemed unworthy and ineligible to exercise a natural right that has been guaranteed against government infringement by our Constitutions? They have no rational or logical rationale, nor do they have any evidence to suggest that law-abiding Hawaii citizens would act in any ways other than lawfully to defend themselves and others in the face of threats of grievous bodily injury. While it's possible that some relief may come from court cases, it's more likely we need relief from you, our Hawaii legislators, to make Hawaii a “shall issue” state, wherein any non-prohibited person according to current law must be issued a CCW license upon completion of a background check. There will be a bill before the Hawaii legislature next session, SB 95 ( http://capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=95), to create a “shall issue” law for Hawaii. I urge you to pass this law and legally establishing the validity of our exercising our right to bear arms. It's only chance for law-abiding Hawaii citizens to legally bear arms outside the home other than the remote possibility of a high level appeals court ruling Hawaii's current laws unconstitutional, in which case you, as a legislator will have to craft a law just like SB95 to meet the court requirement for a carry law that meets Constitutional muster (aka “shall issue”, see Moore v. Madigan, state of Illinois (USDC 11-CV-405-WDS, 11-CV-03134; 7th Cir. 12-1269, 12-1788 )). Please side with law-abiding Hawaii citizens and pass SB95 to legally recognize our Constitutionally-guaranteed right to bear arms for self-defense. Thank you.
