Have Your Say - Stop Major Increase to NSW Boating Fees

Have Your Say - Stop Major Increase to NSW Boating Fees
The issue
You can help stop unfair boating tax hikes
Support this petition calling upon the NSW Government to stop Transport for NSW from proceeding any further with the higher fees schedule for boating licences, registrations, which includes PWC, and moorings proposed on 17 May 2024, that are unfair, excessive and initiated without appropriate consultation.
We call upon Transport for NSW to:
- Abandon its new approach to increase boating fees beyond CPI that include x2, x3 and even x15 times higher than CPI, making NSW fees the highest in the nation, with some fees the highest in the world
- Return to the policy and conventions applied for more than 20 years to apply only CPI (which is currently 5.89 per cent) to the entire boating fees schedule covering licences, registrations and moorings.
Case Study: Jon is a third generation boater and small business owner in southern Sydney. Jon runs a family-owned marine retailer that has been operating for more than 75 years.
“There is a perception that boating is reserved for the rich but the vast majority of registered boats are under 6m that means the popular “tinnie”, family runabouts and trailer fishing boats. These are everyday Australians. Hardworking people, raising families and managing household budgets on the kitchen table, who enjoy time on the water with family and friends,” - Jon Hunt, Hunts Marine, Southern Sydney.
This Boating Industry Association Ltd petition calls upon the Minister for Transport to intervene and force Transport for NSW to reset the full schedule of fees impacting licences, registrations and moorings to be no more than CPI adjusted; and to ensure appropriate consultation in such matters into the future.
Please send this petition link to your friends who go boating and encourage them to join.
