Petition updateHave accessible changing facilities at every motorway service station in the UKWe're back ... and the battle goes on!

It's been a while since we've posted as Zack has been busy getting ready for a move to his own bungalow.... but today we made another long but necessary motorway trip and, perhaps, not surprisingly, things haven't changed. We'll leave the rest of today's update to Zack's mum, Krissy, who has written this update:
"Sorry everyone this is a bit of a rant. But I hope this can be shared far and wide!! Something needs to be done to change things. But my fear is that not enough will happen until it’s too late for many. Well Zack’s campaign for changing places at all motorway service stations, may have gone a little quiet as we await a response from Moto, Welcome Break and Roadchef.... But the issue itself is as important as ever. Not only at motorway service stations, but everywhere. Travelling down to Cheltenham today and, as we would on any journey when we know there are not adequate facilities for Zack, we prepare for the worst and hope for the best. But we encountered one of the most unpleasant and distressing experiences on route. My 22 year old adult, son was apologising to me for needing an urgent pad change. He was very upset about this. He has nothing at all to be sorry about! We stopped at the nearest service station knowing full well we will have to change him on the floor. (But what was the alternative?). Without going into too much detail, his skin was burning. Anyway we reached the Moto service station at Knutsford, and there was not enough space to get his wheelchair into the ‘accessible’ ‘disabled’ toilet. But there was a baby changing bench in another room. What a compromise, hey? At Zack’s insistence, I did something I’ve never done. It broke my heart to do it. But I totally understand why he wants me to. I took pictures of him lying on the changer. It was very narrow and so high that Ceri had to stand on a chair to do what we needed to do. It was uncomfortable and painful for Zack and extremely difficult to ‘clean him up’. This, of course, is not the first time nor will it be the last. Actually it makes a change to not be on a dirty floor. Ironically the reason for our trip was for a meeting about Mobiloo, a fantastic facility which provides all the facilities Zack and people like him need. And while this isn’t a permanent solution for the lack of facilities in these places, I’m increasingly finding it to be the only solution. I see so many fabulous mums campaigning for these facilities for their children but all these children grow into adults, and believe me it gets harder, not just physically, but emotionally. If people don’t have dignity then what’s the point? I feel so angry!! Let’s hope we get back home without needing to stop again."
If you have friends and colleagues who don't yet know of Zack's campaign and petition please spread the word once again. We're back to continue fighting the battle!
