This HECS/HELP indexation double dipping rip off needs to stop! We need to change the indexation date. THIS PETITION IS 2 YEARS OLD AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE DESPITE THE GOVERNMENT BEING AWARE OF THIS UNFAIR ACTIVITY!!!

Your payroll is taking tax out each week to pay off your HECS/HELP debt. That doesn't get paid down on your debt until you do your tax return. BUT before that happens indexation (interest) is applied on the existing debt on June 1st. 

So your HECS debt goes up before it goes down each tax year.

The money you've been paying out of your tax all year makes no difference!!

Originally on 1 June 2023 the rate of indexation (interest) was 7.1%. The Government has since been "refunding" some of the interest. Honestly, this is a storyline from Utopia. 

That's why I started this petition. We need the Government to change the date indexation (interest) is applied to include the deductions from our pay. 

Federal Education Minister Jason Clare is aware of this but we want to see change before 1 June 2026. We can't just wait & see if the change will happen.
