Save Little Faces Nursery
Save Little Faces Nursery
We are absolutely shocked and saddened that HSDC have made the proposal to close Little Faces Nursery stating financial difficulties, when they have not increased the fees for several years.
The nursery provide such a breadth of opportunity for development for the children; completely tailored to the individual child. From what I’ve seen every child is recognised & respected as individuals, they’re nurtured according to their needs, and they are shown such warmth & care.
I have no doubt that every parent would attest to the value of this nursery, and the fantastic staff.
The timing of the proposal to close the nursery is also very concerning, during a pandemic, when we are now facing a second national lockdown this year. During the last lockdown the staff worked so hard to keep the nursery running for children of key workers, and in helping to settle all the children back into the nursery after the last lockdown eased. It appears most of the staff have worked for the nursery for many years, and they are all truly dedicated to caring for the children, they should not be facing the prospect of losing their jobs just before Christmas. For the children, this is going to be a shock especially as many of them have only recently settled back into the nursery following the last lockdown. The effect of this on some of them could be very significant.
This Nursery is well established, it has been open since 1975 and provides such an important service for the local community. There are significant housing developments in the local area and demand for nurseries is high. The college doesn’t appear to have done anything to promote the nursery in recent years, it seems to rely almost entirely on word of mouth to fill spaces. The fees are so significantly lower than other local provisions there should be a waiting list of people wanting to join the nursery! It seems a large number of parents have made contact with the college to state that they would happily pay higher fees.
With just 8 weeks notice from start of consultation to the proposed closure date, we will be forced to find new providers during another national lockdown, and we will not receive confirmation of the fate of the nursery until 27th November, just 3 weeks before the proposed date of closure. This is placing an enormous strain on parents, as well as the staff.
It feels as though HSDC has not properly explored options to increase income and reduce overheads, and without even trying to increase fees have jumped to the drastic step of proposing to close the nursery. Perhaps they have the site earmarked for other ventures. Please sign the petition to demand that HSDC explore all options to keep the nursery open.
Let’s hope that this nursery can be saved.
