HATE HAS NO HOME IN DISTRICT 49!

Calling on Debra Schmidt to Withdraw From the D49 School Board Race.  Concerned parents, students, and teachers are calling on Debra Schmidt, to withdraw from the D49 School Board race because of her obvious disrespect for the students, parents, and teachers who make up our community. 

DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE:

1. Debra Schmidt collaborated with an out-of-state national agitator to provoke controversy and filed a frivolous lawsuit against the district. She is personally causing the district to waste tens of thousands of dollars defending a vanity lawsuit. 2. Debra Schmidt collaborated with disgraced former board member and alleged felon, Ivy Liu (https://www.kktv.com/2023/10/04/arrest-papers-former-school-board-member-colorado-springs-area-shed-light-why-she-is-accused-felony-menacing/?fbclid=IwAR1ehcgbyUCp-E2vQBZGFYyl8JJch1jKGRLqyxX1w9appoNrtfFrqueB1BE) to encourage parents to withdraw from public schools. On June 10, 2023, on her public Facebook feed, she promoted a video advocating for parents to abandon public schools. If Schmidt wants parents to leave our schools, why does she want to lead them? Her real motive is to impose her own religious and political beliefs on our community schools and remake them in her image. (See attached documentation in the Updates)
3. Debra Schmidt is so opposed to our teachers that she has opposed every opportunity to increase teacher pay. She opposed the MLO in 2021 and is on the record again in 2023 opposing the MLO. In response to a post about the MLO to show We Love D49 Teachers, Schmidt replied, “Hell No!” (See attached documentation in the Updates)
4. Debra Schmidt disrespects students and constituents so intensely that she refused to participate in the candidate forums hosted by the Student Board of Representatives or the non-partisan League of Women Voters. Given the opportunity to answer direct questions from our students and community, Schmidt was a no-show.
5. Even though thousands of parents support our schools and want character development and emotional support, Debra teamed up with alleged felon, Ivy Liu in a letter to The Gazette arguing that parents aren’t paying attention and don’t deserve to decide for themselves what is best for their own children. Schmidt wants to override parent choice and impose her own version of far-right ideology—canceling all mental health support and character development programs. 6. Debra Schmidt is so opposed to diverse students and alternate perspectives that she wrote to the D49 board, complaining about hearing from students at Sand Creek High School. In her email on September 13, she said, “It would be nice to see what white, straight, Christian kids really think.” Schmidt is a bigot who only wants to hear from students who look like her and think like her.
7. Debra Schmidt teamed up with alleged felon, Ivy Liu and Mark Cravens to campaign as a slate for the D49 Board. Liu is already disqualified by a judicial decision and alleged felonious behavior, and Cravens quit the race after wasting a slot on the ballot. It's time for Schmidt to accept the judgment of the community and withdraw from the race.

District 49 has seen what a toxic board member can do to embarrass and distract the entire operation. Debra Schmidt is committed to continuing the toxic legacy of Ivy Liu with accusations, hatred, and disrespect.
