On August 3, 2017, Hasbro unexpectedly announced that an animated feature length film of Hanazuki had been in early stages of development during their 2017-18 media presentation.

However, following various events going around and outside of Hasbro, such as the layoffs of 10% of the company's workforce, The acquisitions of Saban Brands' entertainment assets and later in 2019, Entertainment One, Hasbro has seemed to forgotten plans for an animated Hanazuki movie during their five year production and distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures, even as Hasbro had cut ties with Titmouse, Inc. over the animation of the show.

Now, the fate of the Hanazuki movie remains strictly unknown, as Hasbro continues to gobble up more and more toy and entertainment brands, it seems that the plans for a Hanazuki movie will be left in the dark at Paramount, as they now got the film rights to Sonic the Hedgehog and owns 49% of Miramax with beIN Media Group.

The plans for the Hanazuki Movie film rights moving to Sony Pictures including:

* The agreement that Hasbro will produce the film in-house via Allspark Animation

* Hasbro to find another studio to do the animation for #Hanazuki and to finish the second season's eight remaining episodes with financial support from Sony Pictures Television

* Sony Pictures (through Columbia Pictures) and Allspark (Hasbro) agreeing to co-finance the production and development of the Hanazuki movie

* The film will be entirely 2D animated, entirely composed in Toon Boom Harmony (similar to Hasbro's previous film, My Little Pony: The Movie from 2017)

* an agreement to release the First and second seasons of Hanazuki and to re-release the short film on Blu-ray and DVD (Through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)
