The Fall of Failure Friday

The Fall of Failure Friday
The Issue
At Harwood Junior High, the administration has started this policy in which they contact parents and students about failing grades. Although the concept seems very beneficial, the verbiage used creates a negative overtone and feels condescending towards students. The alliteration in the title “Failure Friday”, may have been intended to be playful; however, it comes across as mocking children who are struggling academically. To help the program be more successful, I would suggest using titles that are motivating and informative, instead of demeaning, such as Weekly Warning or Friday Followup. Covid-19 has disrupted learning for students worldwide. We are struggling with assignments and may need reminders, like the program intends, but the current approach could be more harmful than helpful.
