Hands Off Our Coffee Truck — Keep Nibble at the MBC
The Issue
For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure, Nibble is the little coffee truck parked outside the MBC, and Joanne is the reason a lot of us make it to lunchtime. She knows our orders. She knows which of us needs a double shot before being trusted with anything sharp. She has watched people walk out of that building looking rough and handed them a flat white without asking a single question, which is more pastoral care than most of us get from anywhere else.
Now we're told she may be moved on and replaced with a different truck. We'd like to register our objection — politely, firmly, and with the combined caffeine dependency of several dozen staff behind us.
Here's the thing: it isn't really about coffee. You can get coffee anywhere. It's about ninety seconds of daylight and small talk in the middle of a shift, the informal meetings that happen at that hatch faster than in any booked room, and the fact that a familiar face outside your workplace makes a real difference to morale. People here do early starts, long days and weekends. Nibble is part of what makes that bearable.
She's also a small local business, and Queen's says a great deal about supporting exactly that. Backing a one-woman operation that has built a loyal following entirely on its own merits seems like an easy way to actually mean it, rather than swapping her out for a truck nobody asked for.
We're not asking for much. Leave the truck where it is. Let her keep doing the thing she's very good at. We'll keep handing over money at an alarming rate, and everyone goes home happy.
Please sign if you work in, study in, or have ever staggered out of the MBC badly in need of a coffee.
