Save Hampshire Libraries from £1.7million cuts in services.

Save Hampshire Libraries from £1.7million cuts in services.
The Issue
Hampshire Libraries proposed cuts of £1.7 million include possible closures, staff reductions, mobile library termination and a permanent cut to the book fund. This will seriously endanger the library service in our county.
This is a substantial cut (~14%) in a relatively small budget of £12.4 million per year for the whole of Hampshire. The main service reductions are in smaller "tier 3" libraries. However, these are essential community meet up places, especially for the young children and retired people. Any reduction in services will reduce the standard of living for these people.
Handing over responsibility to volunteers puts libraries at risk if there are no volunteers to take them on. And having "unstaffed" libraries does not seem workable.
