This petition serves to gain support on removing the word "plantation" from the signage throughout the neighborhood, such as the sign at the front of the neighborhood.

Keeping the word "plantation" as part of our neighborhood glorifies the enslavement of black people in the south, specifically in Charleston and is insensitive to the Black community.

As was recently highlighted in our community social media group, the word "plantation" appears to serve as a reason why a Black family may not want to purchase a home in our neighborhood. In order to create a more welcoming environment, the word "plantation" should be removed. 

Also note, this is only a call to change the signage in the neighborhood. This will not require for there to be a change of deeds.
