Further to the recent “malfunction” with the SID camera sited on Moorfield Road and even with the significant drop in the number of vehicles registered & the percentage of speeding vehicles recorded, the latest Traffic Evaluation Reports continue to highlight a serious safety issue for our Community. Again, if the SID Camera was recording traffic in both directions the figures would be doubled, with the speed of traffic and the number of vehicles exceeding the stated speed limit of 30mph.

Traffic Evaluation Report 21/11/2019 – 14/12/2019 (23 day period)

31mph – 40mph = 16374

41mph – 50mph = 833

51mph – 60mph = 45

61mph – 70mph = 6

71mph – 80mph = 1

17259 = Total amount of vehicles breaking the speed limit

Traffic Evaluation Report 06/01/2020 – 30/01/2020 (24 day period)

31mph – 40mph = 16976

41mph – 50mph = 883

51mph – 60mph = 38

61mph – 70mph = 2

81mph – 90mph = 1

17900 = Total amount of vehicles breaking the speed limit

This means around 750 vehicles a day travelling southbound are travelling in excess of the speed limit. Assuming that the same amount of vehicles are travelling northbound, this means over 1,500 vehicles a day are traveling in excess of the speed limit and therefore breaking the law.

The SID Camera sited on Moorfield Road only captures south bound traffic heading towards the railway bridge and that traffic is considerably slower as the road narrows at that point. However, north bound which HBC have never monitored or recorded, we all know go significantly faster after coming off the railway bridge reaching speed of over 70,80,90mph as they drive towards Derby Road.

Halton Borough Council will go to any lengths to protect its image and prove our community wrong, claiming there is no serious road safety issues on Moorfield Road.  The Moorfield Road Action group has always used evidence of high speeding produced by the Councils own equipment, however after the last negative press article was published in the Liverpool Echo, two of our members witnessed an engineer adjusting the SID Camera sited on Moorfield Road. We all noticed an immediate change as the SID was not displaying the speed of every vehicle. The equipment had been changed to record fewer vehicles and at shorter intervals, which would in turn bring down the average speed of vehicles thus proving the local community wrong. However, even with their manipulation of the figures produced, the reports still show a serious road safety issue for our community

Further to the recent comments from individuals which have been posted to this petition, the Moorfield Action group has been receiving a large number of emails from fellow residents unknown to our group, who have complained to HBC on an individual basis and received the same type of dismissive responses from representatives of HBC.

The Council Leader Rob Polhill and his fellow local Councillors continue to ignore correspondence sent by The Moorfield Road Action Group and also correspondence sent by individual residents living on Moorfield Road. As a group we find it is astonishing how representatives of a public body can just choose to ignore correspondence sent to them that requires a response in some form, we find this to be extremely unprofessional. Emails continue to go unanswered and questions raised continue to go unanswered and requests for further information continue to be ignored. Yet there remains the very real concerns from our community about the continued danger from excessive speeding, dangerous driving and the misuse by large overweight HGV Vehicles on Moorfield Road.
