Halt Unchecked Data Center Expansion: Protect Our Water, Power, and Communities!
The Issue
The Invisible Resource Crisis
Right now, massive, windowless concrete monoliths are quietly consuming our communities from the inside out. They are called "hyperscale data centers," and while they promise progress, they are operating at a devastating cost to our local environment, our public utilities, and our daily quality of life.
Many residents don’t realize what happens when these facilities turn into..they extract local resources to a degree that is completely unsustainable.
Why We Must Put on the Brakes Immediately:
Monopolizing Our Clean Water: Data centers require millions of gallons of water every single day just to keep their server racks from overheating. During summer droughts, residents face strict water restrictions—yet corporations are permitted to vaporize hundreds of thousands of gallons of public utility water daily just to chill their infrastructure.
Straining Our Power Grid: The sheer volume of electricity a single data center complex demands is staggering. This massive baseline load threatens to outpace our local clean energy initiatives, driving up utility costs for everyday families and forcing dirty fossil-fuel plants to stay online just to keep up.
The Endless Industrial Noise: To cool these facilities, massive industrial chillers and rooftop fans run 24/7. This creates a relentless, low-frequency hum that vibrates through nearby neighborhoods, destroying the peace, wildlife habitats, and property values of the people who live there.
Zero Local Benefit: These massive complexes take up hundreds of acres of land but create almost no permanent, local jobs once construction ends. They extract our resources, strain our infrastructure, and export 100% of the profits.
Our Demand: A Mandatory Pause and Strict Accountability
We, the undersigned residents and advocates, demand an immediate halt to the unmitigated rush of data center construction. We call on state and local leaders to enact a moratorium on all new data center zoning and permits until the industry can prove they can operate without harming our communities.
Before any further operations or expansions are permitted, the industry must be legally mandated to implement:
True Closed-Loop Cooling: A complete ban on evaporative water consumption, forcing facilities to use zero-water air cooling systems.
Independent Energy Grids: Data centers must fund and build their own dedicated, 100% renewable energy sources rather than pulling from the public grid and driving up consumer rates.
Strict Noise Ordinance Enforcement: Enforceable decibel limits on low-frequency industrial humming to protect surrounding residential zones.

We cannot allow corporate tech giants to outmaneuver local towns with non-disclosure agreements and empty promises of tax revenue. Our water, our air, and our quiet neighborhoods are not for sale.
Sign your name to demand that our leaders protect our resources, hold tech giants accountable, and stop unchecked data center operations before it is too late!
